It is the FINAL WEEK of online registration for the 2016 Walk for Thought! Online registration will be closing at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 12; registrations taking place after TODAY (September 7) cannot be guaranteed a T-shirt, so register today!

When you register online, it helps us focus on making your Walk Day more enjoyable and more successful! Register today to help make the Walk for Thought the success you want it to be!

The Walk takes place on Saturday, September 17 in Canal Park in Duluth, Silver Lake in Rochester, CentraCare Health Plaza in Saint Cloud, and Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton. Take a moment to join a team, start a team or make a donation today!

2016 Consumer and Family Conference
Join the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance for our Fall 2016 Consumer and Family Conference on Saturday, November 12 from 1 to 4 p.m.

This half-day conference is an opportunity for individuals with brain injury, family members and loved ones to participate in workshops and sessions that focus on innovations in the world of brain injury care, therapy and rehabilitation.

There is no cost to attend this conference. To register, please call 612-378-2742 or 1-800-669-6442. Any requests for reasonable accommodations must be received by October 21.

Brain Injury Educational Classes
The Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance offers a variety of educational classes - including our monthly Brain Injury Basics class - for families, individuals and professionals in the Twin Cities. Our educators can also train your staff on-site at your facility with our Traveling Workshops.

Brain Injury Basics

Registration is required for all classes. Brain Injury Basics takes place in the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance offices in Roseville from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Cost is $25 for professionals; a $5 donation is appreciated from consumers.

Lunch and Learn Seminars with Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance
Are you ready to have lunch and learn AND get your CEUs? The Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance is offering Lunch and Learn Seminars at our offices in Roseville and are targeted for Social Workers and Social Service Professionals.

Sessions will take place on September 13, October 12, November 16.

Public Policy Update
Greetings from the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance Public Policy Department!

We invite you to participate in our 2016 Citizen Advocate Academy (CAA) to prepare for the upcoming elections and the 2017 legislative session. The CAA is a series of free public policy and advocacy trainings designed to help you become a more effective advocate.

Our 2016 Academy will consist of four trainings to be held September through December from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch is included.

• September 20: The 2016 Elections - Learn about the upcoming elections and how to choose the candidates you want to support.
• October 25: Telling Your Personal Story - Learn how to turn your brain injury story into an effective political message to create change.
• November 15: The Minnesota State Budget - Find out how Minnesota sets its budget and how that impacts services for people with brain injury.
• December 13: 2017 Legislative Priorities - Prepare for the 2017 session and participate in a "mock" press conference on our policy priorities.

The first three trainings will be held at the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance Office in Roseville and the final training will be held in the State Office Building Press Room in Saint Paul.

Classified Ad - Fundraiser for Granite House, a Nonprofit Brain Injury Home
Announcing a fundraiser luncheon to benefit the construction of Granite House, a nonprofit community residence for adults with severe brain injury who need long-term care. Join us on Sunday, October 16 at Camrose Hill Flower Farm in Stillwater from 11:30 to 2:30 p.m. Enjoy this popular venue known for its beautiful gardens, vintage barns and quiet outdoor spaces, while you sip mimosas from the cash bar and listen to the Mill City String Quartet. A silent auction with unique items and adventures will be open starting at 11:30 a.m.. The Scandinavian Buffet by DECO Catering features cucumber salad, roasted seasonal vegetables, salmon fillets with dill sauce, Swedish meatballs and strawberry torte for dessert. Our program features Kevin Kling, a regular contributor to National Public Radio, who will share stories of his Minnesota childhood and his experience with disability.

The cost to attend is $100 per person, and table sponsorships are available. All proceeds will go directly to the nonprofit, thanks to our sponsorship by the Thrivent Community-Landmark. Please help us make this dream a reality for families in our community who need long-term care for their loved one, and have no other alternative except home care or a nursing home. Classified Ad Opportunities
We are pleased to provide an online opportunity for organizations to broadcast their message about job openings, services and more through affordable, convenient advertising. This bi-weekly electronic publication is sent to more than 6,250 professionals, paraprofessionals and persons with brain injury and their families.

The cost to run a classified ad of up to 250 words is $20 for one edition or $30 for two editions. Ads must be submitted in electronic form to receive this rate. Ads submitted in hard copy will be charged an additional $15 administrative fee.
