THE WALK FOR THOUGHT NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT!
The Walk for Thought is our biggest event of the year and we need YOU to help make it a success! The Walk takes place on September 20 in Canal Park in Duluth, Silver Lake in Rochester, CentraCare Health Plaza in Saint Cloud, and Battle Creek Pavilion in Battle Creek Regional Park in Maplewood. Please join a team, start a team or make a donation today!

Also, in the weeks leading up to the Walk, whenever you talk about it on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr - whatever your Social Media platform of choice - use the hashtag #W4T2014 so we can repost your comments! We'd love to know who is talking about the Walk and who is helping make this Walk the biggest one ever!

So, come and celebrate the strengths and successes of the thousands of individuals who have experience brain injury, along with their families, friends and the professionals who work with them at this year's Walk.

Did You Know. . .
For people with brain injury to get home and community based services, they first need to sign up for Medical Assistance (MA). In order to qualify for Medical Assistance there are income and asset standards that severely limit how much income and how many assets a person can have. It is incredibly unfair to individuals and short-sighted by the State to expect people to live in deep poverty to be able to gain access to the services that can keep them living independently in the community and out of more costly institutional care. If you or a loved one are impacted by MA income and asset standards and are willing to share your story, please call Erica Schmiel, Public Policy Associate, at 612-378-2742 or 800-669-6642, or email at ericas@braininjurymn.org.

Comprehension of Non-Fictional Texts after Brain Injury
Jocelyn Yu, MS, a PhD student at the University of Minnesota, is looking for people with traumatic brain injury (aged 18 to 64) in a study that looks at how much people understand after reading a short passage. The aim of the study is to compare how people with and without traumatic brain injuries evaluate their understanding of a text. The study includes one approximately 3.5-hour session of standardized testing. All participants will be compensated $35 for their involvement. If you are interested in learning more about this program and to find out if you are eligible, contact Jocelyn Yu at yuxxx583@umn.edu or 612-276-2250.
