2016 Walk for Thought
The 2016 Walk for Thought will take place on Saturday, September 17 at the Duluth Lakewalk in Duluth, Silver Lake in Rochester, CentraCare Health Plaza in Saint Cloud, and at Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton in the Twin Cities.

Celebrate the strengths and successes of the thousands of individuals who have experience brain injury, along with their families, friends and the professionals who work with them at this year's Walk for Thought.

Brain Injury Educational Classes
The Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance offers a variety of educational classes - including our monthly Brain Injury Basics class - for families, individuals and professionals in the Twin Cities. Our educators can also train your staff on-site at your facility with our Traveling Workshops.

Brain Injury Basics

Registration is required for all classes. Brain Injury Basics takes place in the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance offices in Roseville from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Cost is $25 for professionals; a $5 donation is appreciated from consumers.

Unmasking Brain Injury
Explore your creative side and help raise brain injury awareness with Unmasking Brain Injury! This community-based project will promote awareness about brain injury through mask displays made by people affected by brain injury. Combining therapy, art and advocacy, each mask will present an entirely unique perspective on life with brain injury and will give survivors, care givers and professionals a voice and the means to educate others of what it is like to live with brain injury.

Lunch and Learn Seminars with Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance
Are you ready to have lunch and learn AND get your CEUs? The Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance is offering Lunch and Learn Seminars at our offices in Roseville and are targeted for Social Workers and Social Service Professionals.

Sessions will take place on September 13, October 12, November 16.

Indeed We Can Fundraiser on August 17
Each Wednesday, Indeed Brewery donates their net proceeds for the evening to a non-profit organization nominated by one of their staff members. On Wednesday, August 17, the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance will be the lucky recipient. So, join us for a pint between 3 and 11 p.m., bring your family and friends and raise money for the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance. No Helmet No Ride is an organization focused on creating a culture where wearing helmets on bikes, blades and boards is the norm!

On Thursday, August 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at OVAL Skate Park in Roseville, MN, No Helmet No Ride will be handing out all-sport helmets on a first come, first served basis and 3rd Lair SkatePark & SkateShop will be giving FREE 20 minute instructional lessons on skating, skating safety and skating tricks.

Classified Ad - Research Volunteers Needed at University of Minnesota
Researchers in the Center for Acquired Cognitive and Communicative Deficits (CACCD) at the University of Minnesota are looking for volunteers to participate in a variety of different research projects. The CACCD lab conducts research and provides testing and consultative services for individuals with acquired neurological disorders. This includes children and adults who have experienced concussions, traumatic brain injuries, and strokes, among other disorders.

Projects: There are many different projects with unique requirements. You may even be interested in participating in more than one. Each project is unique, however, all of the research involves assessment and rehabilitation for cognition and language. Some (but not all) participation is paid.

Interested volunteers or those with questions are encouraged to contact Dr. Jessica Brown at brow4565@umn.edu or call 612-626-9688. Please leave your name and contact information in an email or voice mail so that Dr. Brown can contact you and tell you about the different participation opportunities. Caregivers are welcome to contact the lab as well. If you contact the lab and decide you are not interested in doing the research you are able to withdraw at any time. Thank you!
