Unmasking Brain Injury Events
In October, our Unmasking tour visits the Sauk Center Eagles Healing Nest on October 16 and Anoka Eagles Healing Nest on October 18. The goal of the Veterans Unmasking Brain Injury Project is to bridge the divide between veterans and civilians through art that communicates their unique perspectives about life with brain injury. View creative masks, view the Unmasking movie and particiapge in a panel discussion. The Eagles Healing Nest events are funded in part with money from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund that was created with the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.

The Minneapolis Central Library will be hosting an Unmasking exhibition from October 2 through November 29 with special events throughout the exhibitiion:
Monday, October 15, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. - Mask-making in The Commons
Monday, October 15, 2 p.m. - Unmasking film screening in Pohlad Hall
Wednesday, October 17, 1 p.m. - Unmasking film screening in Pohland Hall
Wednesday, November 7, 5:30 to 7 p.m. - Lecture by Dr. Robert L. Karol in Pohlad Hall

Consumer and Family Conference
Join the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance for our Fall 2018 Consumer and Family Conference on Saturday, October 20 from 1 to 4 p.m.

This half-day conference is an opportunity for individuals with brain injury, family members and loved ones to participate in workshops and sessions that focus on innovations in the world of brain injury care, therapy and rehabilitation.

There is no cost to attend this conference. To register, please call 612-378-2742 or 1-800-669-6442. Any requests for reasonable accommodations must be received by October 10.

Caregiver Advocacy and Resource Education
The Minnesota Stroke Association in collaboration with the State of Minnesota Department of Human Services Live Well at Home Grant will present education sessions about caregiving through the Caregiver Advocacy and Resource Education (CARE) Program. The program will also include 30 minutes of social time for caregivers to connect and benefit from the experience, skills, and wisdom of other caregivers.

Our next CARE session will be on October 16: Healthcare Directives, Hospice and Palliative Care

Public Policy Update
The Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance encourages you to vote in the upcoming November 6 elections. The lawmakers we elect will directly impact the services people with brain injuries rely on. Services such as Medical Assistance, housing the and waivers are all at stake. You can check your registrations status, find your polling place, get your sample ballot or find answers to many other question at mnvotes.org. If you have any questions about the election, please contact Zack Eichten at zacke@braininjurymn.org.

2019 Annual Conference Request for Presenters
The Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance is busy planning the 2019 Annual Conference for Professionals in Brain Injury, which will be held on April 25 and 26, 2019 at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. We would like to invite you to submit a proposal or proposals for breakout sessions. Proposals are due by November 30.

Minnesota Statewide Stroke Conference
The 2018 Minnesota Statewide Stroke Conference will take place on Thursday, November 8 at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Park. Dr. Jawad F. Kirmani will be our keynote speaker in the morning with 15 breakout sessions, vendor/sponsor booths and plenty of networking and learning opportunities.

Brain Injury Educational Classes
The Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance offers a variety of educational classes - including our monthly Brain Injury Basics class - for families, individuals and professionals in the Twin Cities. Our educators can also train your staff on-site at your facility with our Traveling Workshops.

Brain Injury Basics:
Adjustment to Brain Injury: October 26
Caregiving: November 15
Introduction to Brain Injury: December 20 Registration is required for all classes. Brain Injury Basics takes place in the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance offices in Roseville from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Cost is $25 for professionals; a $5 donation is appreciated from consumers.

Lunch and Learn Seminars
Are you ready to have lunch and learn AND get your CEUs? The Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance is offering Lunch and Learn Seminars at our offices in Roseville and are targeted for Social Workers and Social Service Professionals.

Classified Ad Opportunities
We are pleased to provide an online opportunity for organizations to broadcast their message about job openings, services and more through affordable, convenient advertising. This bi-weekly electronic publication is sent to more than 8,000 professionals, paraprofessionals and persons with brain injury and their families.

The cost to run a classified ad of up to 250 words is $20 for one edition or $30 for two editions. Ads must be submitted in electronic form to receive this rate. Ads submitted in hard copy will be charged an additional $15 administrative fee.
