March is Brain Injury Awareness Month
Throughout the year, the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance offers brain injury education, advocacy, and support across Minnesota. But in March we like to place a special emphasis on taking the time to raise brain injury awareness in our local communities. This Brain Injury Awareness Month, we would like to encourage you to think of how you could spread brain injury awareness in your personal and work life.

New Facebook Page for Minnesota Stroke Association and Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance
March is Brain Injury Awareness Month and this year we're celebrating by launching an all new Facebook page! That's right! The Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance and Minnesota Stroke Association will now be together at https://www.facebook.com/MNBIAMSA. Join us there for all the Brain Injury Awareness Month posts, Stroke Awareness posts, calendar updates, photos of events and community engagement. Everything you want, under one roof. 2020 Annual Conference for Professionals in Brain Injury
The 2020 Annual Conference for Professionals in Brain Injury will be held on April 16 and 17 at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Katy O'Brien, PhD, CCC-SLP and Emily Nalder, PhD, OT Reg (Ontario), will be presenting our keynote presentations on Thursday and Friday mornings. Plenary presentations from Ray Widstrand and Joe Oppold will be held in the afternoons. There will also be 24 breakout sessions, vendor/sponsor booths and plenty of networking and learning opportunities.

Unmasking Brain Injury
During the month of March we will be hosting Unmasking Brain Injury events to raise awareness of brain injury in the community. Staff will be on-hand with mask making materials. Make your own mask and share your personal story about life with brain injury. Everyone is welcome to participate whether you are a brain injury or stroke survivor, caregiver, professional, family member or friend.

  • Monday, March 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Advanced Behavioral Health in Brooklyn Park - Mask Making
  • Wednesday, March 11, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Health Partners Neuroscience Center in Saint Paul
  • Wednesday, March 25, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Sojourn in Mound - Mask Making
  • Wednesday, March 25 at 12:30 p.m. at Sojourn in Mound - Unmasking Documentary
  • Friday, March 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. at University of Minnesota in Duluth - Mask Making
  • Friday, March 27 at 3:30 p.m. at University of Minnesota in Duluth - Unmasking Documentary

Brain Injury Educational Classes
The Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance offers a variety of educational classes - including our monthly Brain Injury Basics class - for families, individuals and professionals in the Twin Cities. Our educators can also train your staff on-site at your facility with our Traveling Workshops.

Brain Injury Basics:
Introduction to Brain Injury: March 26
Adjustment to Brain Injury: April 23
Caregiving: May 28

Registration is required for all classes. Brain Injury Basics takes place in the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance offices in Roseville from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Cost is $25 for professionals; a $5 donation is appreciated from consumers.

2020 Strides for Stroke
Stroke is a community made up of families, friends, co-workers, educators, professionals, celebrities and advocates who work to build a world where every stroke is threated in a timely manner and where stroke rates drop, year after year.

Strides for Stroke demonstrates that stroke survivors are people with possibilities. The hundreds of survivors, families and supporters walking together. Strides for Stroke will take place on Saturday, May 18 in Duluth, Saint Cloud and the Twin Cities. On-site registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. Help us make this year's Walk even bigger by signing up today. Join our emcee's in the Twin Cities and Duluth: Tim Blotz from Twin Cities FOX 9 and Kelly Hinseth from CBS 3 in Duluth.

Classified Ad Opportunities

This bi-weekly electronic publication is sent to more than 8,500 professionals, paraprofessionals and persons with brain injury and their families.

The cost to run a classified ad of up to 250 words is $20 for one edition or $30 for two editions. Ads must be submitted in electronic form to receive this rate. Ads submitted in hard copy will be charged an additional $15 administrative fee.
